Southern Exposure – A year in New Zealand by New Zealanders, is a book which presents an original, democratic view of New Zealand. I was fortunate enough to have one on my images, Sunset Conversation, feature in this book as a double page spread.
The way this book came together was quite unique. It was put together by New Zealand Geographic, and the images were chosen from 25,000 images by more than 1,500 photographers on the New Zealand Geographic Flickr group. This publication marks the first known time in New Zealand that a book has been produced from content entirely from social media.
Southern Exposure goes on sale to the public on the 23 July 2012, and will be only available from the New Zealand Geographic website. You can order you copy of the book and browse through the pages online here.

Thanks for you comment Maggie 🙂
Nice. Trying to place your photo — is it Wellington’s south coast from out past Moa Point?
Hey Sean, nope it’s from the carpark at Princess Bay looking towards Island Bay http://goo.gl/maps/4409
This is an excellent book, great concept, well priced, and I look forward to reading the text too!!! cheers to Mark for success..
Thanks Paul – I’m sure you’ll enjoy the book!
Stunning photo..where was it taken?
Book looks like it will be fantastic to have too
Thanks Christine, it was taken at Princess Bay in Wellington NZ.
A beautiful illustration that proves we live in the most beautiful place on earth. Thanks Markg for providing a book which is a “must have”.
You can’t go past a campervan pic, the best way to see NZ, and get to the far flung parts. Great to see that it had been chosen of the book, have just ordered a copy for my 90 year old dad who was brought up here and spent many months in his van cruising the back road of NZ. It is soooo NZ – justifiable inclusion in the book!Well done!
WOW! Just wow. You are talented! Do you need a special lens to take the star photos? Keep up the good work – NZ is an amazing place to live.
Thanks! Not really special lenses – you can read up on how I take my photos and the equipment I use here: http://theartofnight.com/2014/06/the-art-of-astrophotography-tutorial/
